If the government makes it illegal for certifying organizations to uphold standards higher than those defined by the USDA, this will create grave dangers to the health and safety of the consumer, as well as huge problems for small farmers and the health food industry.
Although 93% of Americans polled oppose this practice, the USDA is allowing genetically engineered food to be placed, unlabeled, on the shelves of major supermarkets this year.
Fortunately, the international alarm has been sounded and European consumers have virtually boycotted genetically altered soybeans and grains. As U.S. consumers are recognizing the degradation of food quality and the dangers of biotechnology to health and land, they look to their local health and natural food stores and suppliers for information and updates.
